.
“If you want to sell your whisky to buy hashish, I may be of service, he said…”

Orion's Cartwheel
In the summer of 1980, a maverick young doctor gave it all up, to hitchhike around the world.
The first arc he carved with his thumb stopped a little red pickup that took him over the horizon. Like his mythical hunter companion, Orion, he was on a vision quest, propelled toward the dawn to have his sight restored. This is the story of a five-year odyssey to discover his destiny.

.

.

Between the Cartwheels
The first part of his odyssey took him through South America and up through Africa, accompanied by his mythical hunter companion, Orion.
Between the Cartwheels is the sequel to that cartwheel, his vision quest continuing now, on the European Grand Tour adventure of a lifetime.

.

Hind Cartwheel
In Hind Cartwheel, blessed by the living goddess on his thirtieth birthday, he spins the dharma wheel of the Indian subcontinent.

.

.

The Final Cartwheel
The Final Cartwheel is the story of a young doctor's return home, after a five-year hitchhiking odyssey around the world. Through East Asia, Indonesia, and around the Antipodes, the circle becomes unbroken.

About the Author
As a medical professor, Lawrence Winkler never guessed that casual backyard observation would become a catalogue, and then an anthem, and then a lyrical chronicle of the science and poetry of nature.  He landed on a world of narrative non-fiction writing, from which there was no escape....

His other passions include viticulture, travel, gardening, mushroom foraging, music, Japanese art, and efforts at local environmental stewardship.

Faux Wooden Blinds: Even for Less

Years ago I found this beautiful blinds at IKEA and placed them on each window in my house: faux wooden blinds in white and dark-brown.
.

.

They look really expensive, but weren't.  Now I wanted for a new office the same blinds, but learned that they are not available anymore...  What a disappointment!
.
Not in the mood to go shopping during a summer heat wave, I went online - and sure enough found the same blinds on Amazon's website - and even for a lower amount!
Keeps the heat and sun out of the office.
